The workshop seeks to explore the potential and the utility of a shared conceptual vocabulary for the analysis of modern East Asian music. The programme will comprise three sessions focused on analytical case studies, drawing on repertoire from the pre-war, post-war and contemporary periods. Each session will begin with analytical prompts offered by the workshop facilitators, followed by discussions between participants.
